With winter coming, you need to make sure that your parking lot is ready for winter. Not only will it save you money to do that, but it also keeps you and your customers safer. There are several things that you should do before the snow flies.
Clean Your Parking Lot
You want to make sure that all the debris like gravel, trash, pieces of parking lot, and so on cleaned off your parking lot. If there is any of that, and it gets caught under the snow, your parking lot could get damaged, as well as your car and the cars of your customers. If your parking lot is small enough, you can do it using a large push broom. Otherwise, you may want to contract with a service that can come in and sweep it for you. That service can also help you to remove any chemical spills. Things like gas and oil can damage your parking lot and create potholes over the winter.
If your parking lot has a lot of cracks in it, you want to get them patched before it starts to get too cold. That's because when water freezes, it expands. That means when it gets into the cracks and freezes, it can cause the crack to start to expand. In the early winter and late winter when the temperatures fluctuate a lot, the water may freeze overnight and then thaw during the day. That thaw allows the water to get further down in the crack. As that happens each day, it causes the crack to expand minutely. Over a few days or weeks, the crack can become very big. Patching the crack before it really starts to freeze can keep that from happening.
Check Your Seal Coat
If your parking lot hasn't been seal coated in the last couple of years, it may be time to get that taken care of. The seal coating just adds another layer of protection to your parking lot. As part of the seal coat process, cracks and holes will be patched and then the protectant will be put on the parking lot.
Making sure your parking lot is ready for the freezing weather, ice, snow, and salt of winter will make it easier on your come spring. Your parking lot won't have a lot of damage that you will have to repair and your customers won't have to worry about damage to their cars.Share
